Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium metal. It is inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of the natural tooth. An artificial replacement tooth is attached to the implant. The implant acts as an anchor to hold the replacement tooth in place. An implant keeps this bone intact which can prevent both bone loss and gum tissue shrinkage. An implant is also much easier to clean as compared to a bridge, and unlike a bridge, will not be affected by cavities.

Sedation Dentistry

We offer conscious sedation. We offer mild oral sedation for some patients over the age of 12. You will be more relaxed and able to respond to commands. Oral sedation is contraindicated for those with airway obstructions or high BMI index.

Nitrous oxide conscious sedation (laughing gas) is the combination of inhaled nitrous oxide and oxygen is a safe and effective means of managing pain and anxiety in dentistry.

Root Canals

Root canal treatment, also referred to as endodontic therapy, is an effective and safe treatment for teeth whose pulp has become inflamed or infected. It can also be required in other situations to help save and restore a tooth.

Root canal treatment is the process of removing infected or injured tissue (pulp) from inside the crown and roots of a tooth. Once cleaned, the canal is disinfected, shaped, filled and sealed with natural rubber-like material called gutta percha. The opening of the tooth is then sealed with either a temporary or permanent filling to prevent future infection.

Are you a candidate for whitening? Whitening can increase sensitivity if you currently have sensitivity or have active decay. Dark stains and colours from decay, darker fillings and crowns, enamel deformations will not change colour. Book a consultation with your dentist to see if you are a candidate.

The Zoom teeth whitening is fairly simple. The dentist records the current shade of your teeth. Then they polish your teeth removing plaque. The dentist applies a solution to the surface of your teeth to whiten them. This solution includes hydrogen peroxide or carbide peroxide. Then a light is used to accelerate the peroxide. This usually lasts for 15 to 60 minutes.

Take home whitening trays involves custom trays made from impressions of your teeth. Whitening trays hold whitening gel in contact with the tooth but minimize contact with the remaining oral tissue. These trays are usually worn for 1 hour for 14 days. Take home whitening trays are generally less sensitive than Zoom whitening.

Pediatric Dentistry

We suggest bringing your kids for their first exam 6 months after their first teeth have erupted. Decay can occur in as little as 6 months after eruption. Small cavities in the enamel layer may not require freezing. We suggest parents to allow us to do the explaining of any procedure.

We do not have a pedodontist. Most of our children are treated in the office. Nervous patients or extractions may require nitrous oxide. 3-4-year-old with multiple cavities, special needs or those non-responsive to nitrous oxide may require general anaesthesia.

We have access to Fort St John hospital for dentistry under general anesthesia. The pediatric dental work will be performed by Dr Ma and the anaesthesia provided by the GPA or anaesthesiologist. Waiting time is more than 3 months.

If your child requires dental work in the office. Please refrain from using the words, “needle, pain, brave, hurt, drill, pinch, sting, pull or rip out your tooth or grabbing your child’s hand tightly” because it may result in increased anxiety in your child.
